This week our #WCW is the talented, OKENYO. A songwriter and vocalist who has been on the come up since 2015, this Sydney girl is one to watch. Every year since her debut she has continued to get bigger and better, a pattern that doesn’t look like stopping.
Not only has OKENYO made a splash locally, she’s also caught some eyes and ears abroad too. She’s been featured in multiple US and UK publications such as Hungry TV who called her “equal parts Frank Ocean, Grace Jones and M.I.A”. A recipe for success if we ever saw one.
When looking for empowering women, OKENYO is a great place to start. Her new song 10 Feet Tall comes with a mission statement of “igniting strength and spirit in the women around her”. One of the best storytellers in electronic music, her melancholia and 808’s are incredibly moving.
It is an exciting time to be a women. This new generation of powerful role models and trail blazers is undeniably inspiring. OKENYO being the multifaceted artist she is, is definitely one of them. If you want to see for yourself, you can catch her playing VIVID’s ‘Women In Electronic Music Showcase’ this month in Sydney!
