#WCW : Factory Girls

This week for #WCW we are crushing on a trio of three amazing women, Factory Girls! Factory Girls is an all female collective out of the U.S. made up of DJs and producers Katie Rex (New York City), Gun$ Garcia (Philadelphia) and Suga Shay (Los Angeles).

These women have been going above and beyond to support femininity in the music scene since 2011. Together they empower women in all different ways. When they aren’t performing killer DJ sets at festivals, they are putting on their own events. The cultural events they put on create a space for and bring together musicians, designers, artists and young social leaders.

Factory Girls’ annual events always get a massive response, attracting up to 10,000 attendees. The parties and events are not just celebrating women instead it celebrates all femininity regardless of gender. As individuals, all three girls act as mentors and facilitators in the underground dance world and when they come together, they demonstrate the power women hold in groups.

Every year the trio make a “Galentines Day” mix. An hour long mixtape consisting only of tracks with females either behind it or on it. This year’s Galentines Day mix was amazing as ever. Featuring in it were girls from all different genres and from all around the globe, we are treated to tracks from UNIIQU3, Anna Lunoe, LOUISAHHH!, Tkay Maidza and a couple songs from our gal Nina Las Vegas.

Factory Girls also take Galentines Day to the clubs, doing a series of shows around the U.S. These ladies are a key example of how people can not only encourage and empower women in the industry but how we can actually DO something to support and celebrate them. They are leading the industry in the right direction and there strong initiative is an agent for change. Get behind them!
