Cardi B

#WCW : Cardi B

Our #WCW this week is the one and only Cardi B. At this point she really doesn’t need an introduction. Dominating the charts last year and breaking records left right and centre, Cardi is on top of the game right now.

Having grown up in the Bronx to immigrant parents, Cardi’s rise to the top hasn’t come easy. Before she followed her dream of becoming a rapper, Cardi was making a living for herself stripping. Not only did she use dancing as a means of making money, it was also her way out of an abusive relationship.

Cardi B’s no filter attitude saw her become quite a big personality on instagram. After monetising her Instagram and putting out a few successful singles, Cardi was able to leave the strip club and pursue music full time.

As she says in ‘Bodak Yellow’, Cardi B dropped two mixtapes in six months and released one of the biggest songs of the year. ‘Bodak Yellow’ made her the first female rapper to reach #1 on Billboard since Lauren Hill in 1998!

That was just the first of her many record breaking achievements. Carbi B then went on to become the first female rapper to have her first 3 entries land inside the top 10 of the hottest 100. Most recently, on January 18, she became the first woman to have five Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

A self-made rap queen, Cardi B worked her ass off and was relentless until people took her seriously. Now she has a rap anthem that is basically a big F.U to everyone who told her she would never be anything but a stripper.

She is the definition of empowering and it is undeniable the influence she is having, not only in rap, but in music in general. As she says, she’s just a regular girl from the bronx who is basically the Michelle Obama of the hood.
