Following the February release of her debut EP Lapland, Ninajirachi is offering up a new two-track club EP just in time for Australian festival Splendour In The Grass. Shaping up to be one of Australia’s most prolific young producers, Water Gun / Stingray reveals another step forward in Ninajirachi’s already boundary pushing catalogue.
Released via Nina Las Vegas’ label NLV Records, Water Gun / Stingray showcases some of Ninajirachi’s most creative and experimental tracks yet, staying true to the label’s forward thinking morals.
With her last release gaining praise from the likes of Mixmag and Charli XCX, this new EP promises to follow suit, already received early support from Cashmere Cat, Dillon Francis, Anna Lunoe and more. As demonstrated in the production sample pack Nina created for Splice, she is a mind blowingly intricate producer and can materialise a melody out of the most unassuming sounds.
The Mixmag premiered ‘Water Gun’ came first of the two, and as Nina says, basically all came together in her head. “Often I make up tracks as I go along, but for this one, it was like I heard the finished product in my head before I had even opened my computer and decided, ‘I’m gonna try and make that’, and the rest was just a ghost in the wall moving my hands and making the track for me.”
Collaborating for a second time, ‘Stingray’ features Sydney based producer Oh Boy. “A couple of months ago I was hanging out with Oh Boy and we made the beat that later became Stingray. I worked with it for a few weeks and the end result was the perfect second track for this EP ”
Ninajirachi has already had a big year with festivals and a hand in writing the Australian Womens FIFA World Cup anthem for The Matildas, ‘Everything We Ever Dreamed Of’ with Nina Las Vegas, Kota Banks & KLP. Following Splendour in the Grass, catch Nina on tour with Hermitude and Haiku Hands through November, Wollongong’s Yours & Owls Sundays, iconic Canberra festival Stonefest and the just announced FOMO Festival alongside Lizzo, Brockhamption, Octavian and more.
She is going strength to strength. Keep your eye on her as she continues to become one of this country’s essential new producers.
‘Water Gun / Stingray’ is out now and is your new must have club kit.
