After a whirlwind year in 2018, Ninajirachi today releases her debut Lapland EP, alongside her latest single “Human” feat. Freya Staer, out via NLV Records. The 7-track release arrives as culmination of years spent refining her club ready, electronic pop sound, finally giving fans a full dose of Ninajirachi to listen through well into 2019.
Opening with title track “Lapland”, everything is instantly quintessential Ninajirachi, matching glistening beat production with distorted, pastel-infused vocals right off the bat. A force to be reckoned with, every layer is purposefully placed, with breakbeat percussion driving glowing synth melodies in the background. Up next, “Human” featuring Nina’s frequent collaborator and childhood friend, Freya Staer, draws closer attention to the pairs collective growth, with Freya’s vocals now one with Nina’s sonic identity. The track experiments with push and pull, focussing on glimmering beats and quickly shifting to a playful, percussion-driven chorus. “Gardenia Pt. II” feat. Oh Boy is an imperative insight into the inner workings of Nina’s precise and thoughtful creative process. A prequel to the fast paced “Gardenia Pt. II” that follows soon after, the track builds in instrumental intensity providing the perfect interlude for the 2018 release and O.G. “Gardenia” feat. Oh Boy. The pair harmoniously compliment each other’s bubbly and energetic sound and in doing so, collectively clock just under 3 and a half minutes of glitchy samples, warped flute melodies & saturated weaving percussion loops.
Her debut single off Lapland, “Pathetic” feat. Naah moves through the middle of the EP, melding an intricate mix of pop and gentle percussion that has become synonymous with Ninajirachi, whereas follow up track “Glass” feat. Sequel broadens Nina’s signature sound. Intertwining a bird soundscape with distorted vocal samples, “Glass” slows down the rhythm of her otherwise upbeat EP, highlighting the distinct and crisp performance that exceeds expectations for a producer so early on in her career.
Wrapping up and continuing the exploration of soundscapes, “Voss” arrives as the final taste of Lapland. With incredibly fast paced beats, thrown around with SFX, undermarked by an eerie synth background, “Voss” is proof of just how far and wide Nina has experimented on Lapland, proving once and for all that this is only the beginning for the incredibly versatile and daring producer.
With 2018 being one of her biggest years to date, 2019 is Nina’s for the taking. Named an “Artist To Watch” by Purple Sneakers and an “Act That Will Shape Australian Music in 2019” by Junkee, Nina has garnered widespread acclaim from not only her fans, but the industry alike. After catching the eye of Australian dance music royalty, Nina Las Vegas, she signed onto the countries most innovative dance labels, NLV Records and went on to release two of Lapland’s finest tracks with “Pathetic” feat. Naah and “Gardenia” feat. Oh Boy. On the tour front, she has thrown down huge sets at major festivals across the nation, including Listen Out, Falls Festival, Mountain Sounds, Groovin The Moo, This That Festival and kicking off the new year at Field Day. Keeping company with Australia’s finest acts, she supported Mallrat on her sold-out In The Sky Australian tour, as well collaborated with label boss Nina Las Vegas on “Thursdays” from NLV’s Lucky Girl EP.
