Australian / Italian artist and songwriter, Kota Banks spent her early teens living in Florence with her family – a formative time that shaped her identity and connection to her heritage. Singing from as early as 9 years of age and now based in Sydney’s north, the 23-year old has been hailed as one of Australia’s best new pop acts.
Signing with NLV Records in May last year, Banks worked closely with Swick on her PRIZE mixtape, as well as singles “Holiday” and “Zoom”. “Holiday” received widespread support from radio across the country, Junkee, Acclaim, Pilerats and more, amassing over a million streams and being lauded as “one of the best pop songs of the year”. Brimming with confidence and oozing attitude, “Zoom” was released in March 2018, passing one million streams in April and was added to full rotation on triple j.
Late June 2018, Kota Banks released 10 new tracks on her groundbreaking mixtape PRIZE, again written entirely with producer, Swick. “Child” & “I’m It” already becoming radio favourites, while “Fiorentina” featuring UK Grime MC Capo Lee, secured European radio rotation on Reprezent and plays across Beats1 and BBC Radio 1.
Since the release of Kota’s first single “Empty Streets” featuring MOZA (which has amassed over 19 million streams) and her debut tracks with NLV Records, Banks has toured nationally with Nina Las Vegas on the FOMO Festival tour, supported Southern LA rapper Duckwrth and Australia’s What So Not, alongside securing a publishing deal with Mushroom and signing with the esteemed New World Artists.
Banks continues her business of breaking boundaries and rethinking the Aussie pop genre, with a string of headline shows throughout September.
